For those that don't know Tim Pierce, the man is a legend – and currently also probably my favorite music YouTuber. He’s been named one of the top studio guitarists and has played on thousands of records, to the point where if you can name it, he probably had a part in it. So imagine my surprise...

I was looking for solo ideas while prepping for a jam session at work. Improvisation isn’t exactly my strong suit, so I went digging for inspiration and stumbled onto one of his videos with a really interesting intro.

Here's Tim Pierce – the man, the myth, the legend – openly admitting that he has to put in extra effort before every performance because he can't sight read sheet music!

With credentials like his, you’d assume there’s nothing he can’t do. But there it was – proof that even the best players have gaps they need to work around. If you go through some more of his channel, you'll also find him saying he's "slow" and "doesn't have the technical chops" compared to some other guitarists.
And honestly, I find that nothing but motivating.

It’s a reminder that preparation beats raw talent, and that weaknesses aren’t always limitations. You don’t have to be great at everything to be exceptional at something. Stay disciplined. Keep showing up. Do the work. You might not have it all – but you might already have the thing that counts.
